Filip Mihaljević won the shot put event at the Golden Spike Athletics Meeting in Ostrava. Croatian record holder threw 21.58, which is the seasonal world seventh performance.
Filip won besting Poland’s Michal Haratyk (21.30), while Sweden’s Wictor Petersson finished third (20.90). This is an excellent opening of the season, which will peak at the Tokyo Olympics and end with the Boris Hanžeković Memorial in Zagreb on 14 September.
Javelin Olympic Champion Sara Kolak also appeared at Ostrava. She finished third with a throw of 60.04 metres, behind Germany’s Christin Hussong (66.56) and Czech Republic’s Nikola Ogrodníkova (65.13).
The Golden Spike Meeting in Ostrava is this year’s fourth meeting of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series, which the Boris Hanžeković Memorial also belongs to.
