Since 2014, the ball throwing competition has been held next to the city fountains and the National and University Library, and since 2015 it has been called the Ivan Ivančić Memorial, in memory of the legendary coach of the best Croatian throwers – Ivana Brkljačić, Edis Elkasević, Valentin Srša Sand, Sandra Perkovic. While coaching Sandra Perković, Ivan Ivančić brought European, world and Olympic gold in discus throw to the Dinamo-Zrinjevac athletic club and Croatian athletics.
All the world’s best bowlers regularly come to the Ivan Ivančić Memorial, and it came to the center of attention in 2016, when for the first time since 1988, two bowlers jumped 22.20 meters in the same competition. They were Ryan Crouser (22.28) and Tom Walsh (22.21). Four years later, with 22.74, Crouser will throw the best shot on European soil since 1988, and a year later, then already a two-time Olympic winner, he set a new rally record with 22.84 and the best result on European pitches since May 1988.
