Sergey Shubenkov, the 110m European Champion, is coming to the 65th IAAF World Challenge Zagreb – Hanžeković Memorial – with world gold! In the World Championships final with a surprising outcome, Shubenkov won with an excellent 12.98, which is a new Russian record.
So the Boris Hanžeković Memorial Race will be a showdown of the current World Champion and two former ones – as the 2013 World Champion David Oliver and 2011 gold medallist Jason Richardson are on the start list, too. But, it’s not all, as Pascal Martinot-Lagarde and Orlando Ortega, until recently Cuban and now Spanish national, who has been the season’s fastest hurdler with 12.94, will also be running in the Mladost Stadium on 8 September.
Andrea Ivančević will also run against an extremely strong field in the 100 m hurdles race. The bronze medallist from Beijing Alina Talay and two favourites, who ended up not winning medals at the World Championships – Sharika Nelvis and Tiffany Porter – are also on the start list. Legendary US hurdler Lolo Jones will be another strong competitor in the women’s hurdling race.
So the meeting records in both hurdling races are likely to be challenged.[:]
