The Zagreb Meeting moved from the Maksimir Stadium, which was under reconstruction, to the still not reconstructed and dusty Mladost Stadium in the summer of 1999. Still, we remember it by a great list of participants (Gail Devers, Colin Jackson, Olga Shishigina, James Beckford, Bruny Surin…) and a fantastic race. In the 110 metre hurdles, we saw a duel of the then world record holder Colin Jackson and Olympic Vice-Champion Mark Crear. Crear won in 12.98, which was the fastest Zagreb race in that and previous 2 years and the world’s sixth-best result of all time!
By the way, as many as 11 participants of the 1999 IAAF Zagreb Meeting (which was its official name that year) won gold medals at the upcoming World Champions in Seville in August that year.
