USA’s Gail Devers is definitely one of the best female track and field athletes of all time (three Olympic and five world gold medals), but she did not manage to win in any of her four appearances in Zagreb, both in the 100m flat and 100m hurdles events.
Kazakhstan’s Olga Shishigina bested her in the memorable race in 1999 (interestingly, Devers won gold in the 100m hurdles at the 1999 World Championships and Shishigina at the 2000 Olympic Games), and Jamaica’s Delloreen Ennis-London by only two hundredths of a second a year later. At the same meeting, Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas outran her by a hundredth of a second in the 100m flat.
