Filip Mihaljević versus Budapest medallists

Since shot put competition as the part of the Boris Hanžeković Memorial has been held on an attractive field next to the city fountains and the National and University Library, the world’s best throwers have regularly participated in it. It will be the same in the ninth edition of the Ivan Ivančić Memorial, as the competition has been named since 2015.

This is guaranteed by the current list of participants, which includes, among others, the current world runner-up from Budapest, Leonardo Fabbri, the bronze medallist from the recent World Championships, Joe Kovacs, the former world champion and four-time winner of the Zagreb’s competition Tom Walsh, the World Championships finalist, Payton Otterdahl, and Croatian Filip Mihaljević, the current European champion and seventh-ranked athlete in Budapest.

At the Ivan Ivančić Memorial, the shot put will undoubtedly once again fly beyond the 23-meter mark. The meeting record stands at 22.84 meters and is held by the greatest shot putter of all time, Ryan Crouser, who is also a five-time winner of the Ivan Ivančić Memorial. Tom Walsh has four victories next to the fountains, making them the only winners of this competition so far.

Could the Ivan Ivančić Memorial on 9 September see a third athlete added to the list of winners?
