The final day of Boris Hažeković Memorial will finish with on stadium competition at Sport Park Mladost. We will see some of the world’s fastest runners and also home favourite Sandra Perković.
Six-time European Discus Throw Champion, double world and double Olympic champion Sandra Perković is very optimistic for the upcoming clash with Valarie Allman and other athletes which will be held on Sunday.
„Clashes have shown who the real Discus Queen is. I am satisfied with my performance in Zürich. I have always been on top too at the Diamond League meeting since 2010 which also makes me satisfied. The season has been tough. I might not be happy because I haven’t won everything this year, but it only motivates me for the upcoming competitions. Valarie Allman and I are rivals and it brings more popularity to our sport. My season’s best stands at 68.45 m, I could throw further but Zagreb is the competition where I should throw even further. I don’t want to put any pressure on myself. I am happy to have Marija Tolj in the field too. She hasn’t shown all of her capabilities yet“, said Sandra Perković.
Olympic champion, World bronze medallist and 2022 Diamond League winner Valarie Allman had a powerful victory last year in Zagreb.
„For the first time I was at the top last season. I was happy and proud. But then I realized that it wasn’t easy anymore. You need to work hard and be consistent. The rivalry between Sandra and me is excellent for our event. I have learnt a lot from her and I respect her a lot. Sandra has won on my home soil and I hope to win on her. I know that we will have a great competition on Sunday“, said Valarie Allman.
Double world 110 meters hurdles champion Grant Holloway believes that the Memorial race will be a fast one.
„The season has been good and long. I am the 2022 Diamond League winner and I am happy to be in Zagreb. Even though it’s the end of the season and everybody is tired, I believe I can run fast. My goal is to show how fast I am and to have a great time. I believe that it’s possible to break Mark Crear’s 12.98 Meeting record“, said Holloway.
Last year Marvin Bracy missed the 100 meter Meeting record for 0.01 second.
„I am happy to be in Zagreb again. I have been working a lot, I have been near the top and it motivates me a lot. I hope to set a new Meeting record here. We Americans were first-second-third on the podium in Eugene, I want to stay on the podium until I retire. The plan is to take the American record first, then the world record too. I have a plan. Bolt showed us what it takes to go to his level and our goal is to be better and better“, said Bracy.
Zagreb Meeting Manager, Alfons Juck added a couple of statistical information.
„We will watch 220 athletes from 40 countries in Zagreb, from all continents. 19 Eugene medallists and 18 Münich medallists will be there, including 5 Diamond League winners. One Meeting record is set already, I expect more of them. Two new events are added to the Zagreb Meeting – women’s mile and men’s 2000 m steeplecase“, announced Meeting Manager.
The 72nd edition of Boris Hanžeković Memorial will be broadcasted to 147 countries.
