It’s less than three weeks until the 70th Zagreb Meeting and the start lists contain an increasing number of names that guarantee excellent competition in Mladost Stadium.
The javelin throw will certainly be one of the highlights of the meeting, as the reigning Olympic champion Sara Kolak will share her home turf with Christin Hussong, Nikola Ogrodnikova and Liveta Jasiunaite, all three medallists from the 2018 European Championships in Berlin!
“Super! You made me really happy. You made my day!”, Sara said when she heard the names of her competitors in Zagreb and went on to say:
“I am glad that the Zagreb Meeting will host such strong competition and that I will throw against the girls that I otherwise see at world and European championships. It is exactly what I need this year, when there are almost no competitions, and because of all these problems with quarantines and red lists, it is difficult to get into those few ones.”
Sara is living in Oslo, where she is training with two-time Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen. She believes that she will come to the Zagreb Meeting in very good shape, but in a season like this it is difficult to predict any result.
“It is difficult to get the right rhythm, when things are constantly waited for or postponed and it is never certain until the last moment whether you will appear or not. It is also more difficult to train in such circumstances, but my coach tells me that it is all out of our control and that we must adapt. This is why I can only say that I expect excellent competition in Zagreb. I never predict any results, but I will for sure give my best for it to be as good as possible. Strong competition will certainly help and I am really looking forward to the Zagreb Meeting. You’re saying 19 more days? I can hardly wait!”, Sara concluded.
The meeting record, held by Sara Kolak since last year, is 66.42m.
