Tyson Gay: I heard only good things about Zagreb
The organizers of the 2010 Zagreb IAAF World Challenge dropped a real bomb when they introduced the participants of the 60th Zagreb Meeting at a press conference. [:]No other than this year’s fastest man in the 100m Tyson Gay will run in Zagreb on 1 September.
„I heard only good things about Zagreb. I hope for good and warm weather and a fast track“ Gay let the Croatian public know through the Meeting organizers.
The last year’s meeting record of 9.94 seconds will surely be challenged with him on the track. The triple World Champion from Osaka ran 9.78 seconds this year and he achieved his personal best last year, when he set the US record with 9.69. It was Tyson Gay, who ended Usain Bolt’s two-year long streak of victory in Stockholm a few weeks ago. What a great organizational achievement by Meeting Director Ivana Brkljacic and Meeting Manager Daniel Wessfeldt this is, is seen from the fact that Tyson Gay only ran the 100m in Europe three times this year – in London, Stockholm and Gateshead. And he will run in the Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday.
„The 60th anniversary of the Zagreb Meeting deserves a spectacular name, and one of the world’s best track and field athletes Tyson Gay is definitely in that category. Meeting Manager Daniel Wessfeldt made the most of the available funds,“ Meeting Director Brkljacic proudly announced the greatest star of this year’s Meeting.
Gordana Pokrajcic, Head of the Zagreb Holding Sports Facilities Management Branch and Member of the Organizing Committee, and Zeljko Grabusic, Executive Director of the Meeting, informed those present about the news in the organization of the Meeting, which is a challenge to organize this year, as the Mladost Sports Park will also be the venue of the European Water Polo Championships.
„All departments have done their work and as far as we are concerned, the Meeting can start today. I am happy that we will enjoy one of the strongest meetings so far,“ Pokrajcic said.
Grabusic is a successful Executive Director for the tenth year in a row:
„The organization this year was more challenging than usual, but nobody, who will come to watch athletics or who will participate in the Meeting in any way, will suffer because of it. In any case, all those who come to the stadium, will notice that we have made a step forward.
A new member of the hardworking team that organizes the oldest one-day sporting event in Croatia is Ozren Müller, who is in charge of marketing and promotion.
„I am glad that I have joined the people who organize this excellent competition. Our objective is to preserve the identity and positive vibes which have been marking the Zagreb Meeting for years and which we are sending to the world. This year, TV cameras will convey the picture from Zagreb to about fifty countries, and about ten of them will broadcast the Meeting live,“ Müller said.
Let us remind you: tickets can be bought at the blue booth at the entrance of the Mladost Sports Park from 1 to 7 pm on work days. East stands: 20 kunas, west stands: 50 kunas, VIP seats: 200 kunas.
