There is just a week left until the big discus throw showdown at the 72nd Boris Hanžeković Memorial – WA Continental Tour Gold meeting in Zagreb.
Six-time European discus throw champion and World silver medallist Sandra Perković will try for her 10th victory at the home soil meeting but judging by the names of her opponents on the start list, it will not be easy at all.
The current Olympic champion Valarie Allman is coming to Zagreb again. She convincingly won the Hanžeković memorial last year with a throw of 69.63 meters and she opened this season with the American record and the best result in the world in the last 30 years – 71.46, but at the World Championships in Eugene she was no better than third.
The Olympic and European runner-up Kristin Pudenz also will compete at the 72nd Boris Hanžeković Memorial after she threw a personal best (68.87) in the final of the European Championship in Munich, and was only eight centimeters behind Sandra Perković.
At the Mladost Stadium in Zagreb, we will also see the European bronze medalist Claudine Vita, whose season best is 65.20, as well as the sixth best European Croatian Marija Tolj.
