The woman’s discus throw will for sure be one of the most attractive events at the 71st Boris Hanžeković Memorial, as two-time Olympic champion Sandra Perković and current Olympic champion from Tokyo, USA’s Valarie Allman, have confirmed their participation in it! Besides the fact that Croatia’s best discus thrower will have an opportunity for a rematch against the US thrower, she will also try for her 10th victory at the Zagreb Meeting in Mladost Stadium on 14 September.
This will not be the first time for Valarie Allman to compete at the Hanžeković Memorial. The US thrower also appeared in Zagreb in 2018 and finished third with 61.38, behind Sandra Perković (67.60) and Cuba’s Yaime Perez (64.78).
At the Tokyo Olympics, Valarie Allman threw the winning 68.98 already on her first attempt, while Sandra Perković finished fourth with 65.01, failing to medal at a major sporting event for the first time in 11 years.
