Judging by the preliminary start list, the 800m race could be one of the highlights of the 70th Zagreb Meeting, which belongs to the WA Continental Tour Gold series now.
Leading the start list is the current world silver medallist in this event and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s best athlete Amel Tuka, who won over a strong field with 1:44.78 in Zagreb last year. His main opponent should be British teenager Max Burgin, European junior champion and record holder, currently sixth in the world ranking with 1:44.75.
Sharing the field with them in Mladost Stadium on 15 September will be European indoor champion Álvaro de Arriba, Pan-American Games silver medallist Wesley Vazquez, Andreas Kramer, who is currently 11th in the 800m world ranking and Žan Rudolf.
Since 2018, the Zagreb Meeting record in the 800m of 1:44.08 has been held by Nijel Amos, the world’s third-fastest 800m runner of all time.
