Rajindra Campbell breaks Jamaican record to win at Ivan Ivančić Memorial

Campbell threw 22.44 meters, while the second and third place trophies went to Italian Leonardo Fabbri (22.21) and New Zealander Tom Walsh (21.42)

The world’s best shot putters did not disappoint at the Ivan Ivančić Memorial this year. Once again, they staged an exceptionally high-quality competition on the throwing field next to the Zagreb Fountains, thus announcing in the best way the central part of the Boris Hanžeković Memorial, which will be held on Friday at the Mladost Sports Park.

This year’s Ivančić Memorial winner was Jamaican Rajindra Campbell, who threw 22.44 meters, while the second and third place trophies went to Italian Leonardo Fabbri (22.21) and New Zealander Tom Walsh (21.42).

Rajindra Campbell, bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, improved his personal best at a meet in China last month, throwing 22.34 meters, automatically making him one of the favorites for the Zagreb competition. On Wednesday night, he confirmed that status – he achieved his first triumph at Fontane, adding his name to a list that includes Ryan Crouser with six wins, Tom Walsh with five, and last year’s winner Payton Otterdahl.
