Kristjan Čeh: There Will be Another Spectacular Competition in Zagreb

We are only three weeks away from the start of the 73rd edition of the oldest sporting event in Croatia and one of the world’s best athletics meetings – the Boris Hanžeković Memorial.

This year, the Meeting will also be held at three locations in Zagreb over three days. This year, it will also start with the Zagreb City Challenge in Ban Jelačić Square, where female and male long jumpers will compete. Last year, Filip Pravdica (8.03) and Marko Čeko (8.00) made it possible for spectators to see jumps over eight meters from close range, and on 8 September, from 6 pm on, our best long jumpers will have a new opportunity to achieve top results against strong international competition.

A day later, on 9 September, starting at 7 pm, the Ivan Ivančić Memorial will be held by the Zagreb Fountains, where all the world’s best shot putters have competed for eight years now. The current European champion Filip Mihaljević is regularly among the best throwers at the Diamond League meetings this season, so we expect him to put on another great performance against the world’s shot put elite at the attractive field in Zagreb.

Finally, on 10 September, from 5 pm on, the 73rd Boris Hanžeković Memorial and Mladost Stadium will once again host some of the world’s best track and field athletes, Olympic, world and European champions and world record holders. Besides Croatia’s best athlete Sandra Perković, Croatia’s other best track and field athletes will also participate in the Meeting.

World discus champion Kristjan Čeh is also looking forward to his new appearance at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial. He threw 71.86 metres this year and ranked fourth on the world all-time discus list.

“I am looking forward to participating in the Zagreb Meeting again. There will be a spectacular competition again. I will try to throw far again, so don’t miss the 73rd Boris Hanžeković Memorial”, says the world champion and last year’s Zagreb Meeting Champion.

The Meeting organizers have also announced the BHM athletics conference. It will address current topics such as the WA ranking, which has been extremely important for athletes to qualify for major events in recent years.
