The world’s shot put elite gathered at the 7th Ivan Ivančić Memorial in Zagreb.
Six of ten world’s best shot putters were at the venue by the Zagreb Fountains, all three Tokyo Olympic medallists led by currently the world’s best thrower and world record holder Ryan Crouser. And he excelled again with a new meeting record of 22.84, the best throw in Europe since May 1988!
– I am really happy, satisfied and proud of everything I have managed to achieve this season. I am glad that I have achieved this result in Zagreb, because Zagreb is the meeting at which I feel the best due to its special atmosphere. We could feel the energy, it carried us to create good competition at the end of this season. Now I will go home and start preparing for the new season, because you cannot achieve top results without hard work. I think that I can still make progress regarding speed and technique, as well as mentally. So see you next year – the brilliant U.S. thrower said.
New Zealand’s Tom Walsh also threw over 22 metres (22.39). Filip Mihaljević was also excellent, to the satisfaction of Croatian fans. He threw better and better on each attempt, finishing at 21.26 metres. U.S. thrower Josh Awotunde also had a great evening with 21.19, as did Armin Sinančević of Serbia, who threw 21.45.
