Pole Vaulters Will Go for Six Metres in Zagreb

The pole vault will be a great attraction at the 71st Boris Hanžeković Memorial.

The field, currently including three pole vaulters who have cleared six metres in their careers, will be led by two-time world champion Sam Kendricks, who competed in Zagreb in 2017, as well. Kendrick’s personal best is 6.06 metres and his season’s best is 5.92.

“It’s been since 2017 when I came to try to attack the meet record at the Continental Tour Meeting. I’m going to go for it again this year – 5.76. I’m also going to watch an amazing shot put event in the city. I’m so excited to see my buddies do that. So come watch us on the 13 and 14 September”, Kendricks said.

The start list also includes current European vice-champion and the Boris Hanžeković Memorial record holder (5.76) Timur Morgunov, whose season’s best is 5.90 and personal best 6.00. The third pole vaulter who has cleared six metres in his career is KC Lightfoot, who managed to do it this February.

Filipino pole vault sensation John Obiena, who cleared 5.91 in Paris on Saturday, will also be competing in Zagreb’s Mladost Stadium, as will Slovenian record holder Robert Renner (5.70) and Croatian record holder Ivan Horvat (5.76).

It is certain that we will see vaults much higher than the meeting record and the seats in the stadium’s north stands will be highly sought after on 14 September.
