Sandra: Na ‘Hanžeku’ mogu preko 70 metara

Sandra Perković returned to Zagreb. European and Olympic Discus Throw Champion brought a third title to her home town – the World Champion one. She won it with a throw of 67.99 at the World Championships in Moscow.

A welcome reception was organized upon her arrival at the VIP lounge of the Zagreb Airport.

„Thanks to Sandra, such receptions have become regular practice. This time it was calmer, without stress, as her first throw flew over 67 metres. Some of her opponents have never thrown that far in their whole careers. At only 23, Sandra is already the greatest female discus thrower in history“ said Siniša Ergotić, national team head coach and Director of the Croatian Athletics Federation.

Everything he meant to say, Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić said in only one sentence.

„Edis and Sandra, thank you from my heart, cheers!“ Bandić said, welcoming Sandra Perković and her coach Edis Elkasević.

„We trained hard because we knew that I could win the title. The other girls were ready, too, but not enough. When I threw over 67 metres on my first throw, my opponents’ spirits sank. I am happy because I have worked hard. I have won all three titles. It couldn’t be better“, said Sandra Perković, the first female discus thrower in history who has won all the three most important titles.

“My first goal now is to throw over 70 metres. I wanted to throw that in Moscow, but I didn’t because it started raining. I hope I will manage to do it this year, maybe already at the Hanžeković Memorial in Zagreb. With the home crowd, anything is possible“, Sandra announced her ambitions for the rest of the season.

Besides numerous media representatives, Sandra was also welcomed by Chairman of the Croatian Athletics Federation Luciano Sušanj and Darko Vučić from the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sport.
