Three Olympic and world medallists to run 200m at the 74th Boris Hanžeković Memorial

200m world silver medallist Erriyon Knighton is the sixth-fastest athlete of all time in this event with a 19.49.

The 200m race will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting events at the 74th Boris Hanžeković Memorial, as the start list features a number of highly decorated and exceptionally fast sprinters.

Leading the field is current 200m world silver medallist and Olympic finalist Erriyon Knighton, whose time of 19.49 is the sixth-fastest ever in this event. Knighton ran 19.77 at the U.S. Olympic trials this year.

Even faster than Knighton this year was his compatriot Courtney Lindsey, who will also be competing in Zagreb. Lindsey set a personal best of 19.71 in April.

Brendon Rodney and Matthew Hudson-Smith are also drawing special attention. Rodney won a gold medal with the Canadian 4x100m relay team at the Paris Olympic Games, and his personal best in the 200m is 19.96. Hudson-Smith won a silver medal in the 400m in Paris, he is the 2023 World Championships silver medalist, and holds the European record in the event (43.44), but he is also very fast over the half-lap.

The start list also includes African champion and Olympic finalist Joseph Fahnbulleh, who has a personal best of 19.83 and Croatian Roko Farkaš, who sensationally broke Željko Knapić‘s 43-year-old national record with a time of 20.70 at the European Championships in Rome.

The meeting record set in 2015 at 19.88, is held by former world and European champion Ramil Guliyev.
